La casa

The house

Since 1663

Ducali carries a tradition that began in 1663, when Bartolomeo Lopez y Royo, a Spanish nobleman who had crossed to the Kingdom of Naples, bought the feudal lands of Taurisano at the heel of Italy. His descendants were raised to a duchy — the Duchi di Taurisano — and their name endures in the whitewashed walls, baroque churches, and linen closets of the Salento.

Ducali — of the dukes — is a new name drawn from theirs: a casa tessile, a small textile house, made in the same country and in the same spirit.

Our signature

La pochette is the piece we know by heart. Cotton velvet or pure linen, embroidered with your initial and finished by hand with an ivory tassel — for the small things, from the bag to the vanity. It is made to order in the Salento, in the linens and velvets of the house palette, over two to three weeks. It is the piece we are known for, and the piece we make like no one else.

Around it, three more collections make the house: Kids & Babies — robes and hooded towels for the little ones; Casa — linen for the table, the bedroom and the bath; and Beach and Travel — towels, beach bags and weekend bags. They are arriving one by one.

Two sisters

Ducali is the work of two sisters, Lucrezia and Diana Lopez y Royo di Taurisano. Lucrezia lives in Italy; Diana lives in the United States, returns often through the year, and spends every summer in the Salento with her children.

Both work side by side with the artisans who cut, sew and embroider each piece — choosing the cloth and the thread together, and following every order from the workshop to the home it travels to. A small number of pieces, made slowly, in Italy, by hand.

How we make

Every piece is designed and made in Italy, in the Salento (Puglia). What is made to order — your linen or velvet, your thread, your initials — takes two to three weeks.
